PORTOROŽ – PORTOROSE INTERNATIONAL BALLET COMPETITION 2027
An international ballet competition by the sea
From 13 to 18 July 2027, Portorož will host the inaugural Portorož – Portorose International Ballet Competition. On the stage of the Amphitheatre at Avditorij Portorož, talented young dancers from around the world will showcase their technical skill, artistic expression and stage presence before a distinguished international jury.
The Competition is open to dancers of all nationalities in three age categories:
JUNIORS: aged 15–18;
YOUNG PROFESSIONALS: aged 19–22;
SENIORS: aged 23–26.
Competitors’ ages will be determined on the opening day of the Competition, 13 July 2027. Competitors are judged and ranked individually in all categories.
The Competition will consist of two rounds. Dancers will perform classical variations or a pas de deux, while finalists will also present a contemporary choreography. No more than 30 competitors may advance to the Final, with a maximum of ten from each age category.
Competitors will be selected through a video pre-selection. There is no limit on the number of pre-selection applications, while no more than 80 competitors will be invited to participate in the Competition in Portorož. The deadline for video pre-selection applications is 15 February 2027.
The most successful competitors will receive medals, diplomas and monetary prizes. A single PORTOROŽ – PORTOROSE GRAND PRIX 2027, worth EUR 6,000, may also be awarded to an outstanding competitor from any age category.
During the official accommodation period, the Organiser will provide accepted competitors and their registered non-competing dance partners with complimentary accommodation, breakfast and lunch.
The Competition will conclude on 18 July 2027 with the official Awards Ceremony and Gala Ballet Concert, featuring selected competitors alongside renowned ballet artists.
The Portorož – Portorose International Ballet Competition is more than a competition. It is an international meeting place for young artists, a gateway to new opportunities and a unique ballet experience on the Adriatic coast.
